About black tea
Black tea steeps at 95-100°C for 4-5 minutes — the most forgiving tea to brew, perfect for beginners. English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Assam, Darjeeling all share this protocol.
Benefits
- ·Highest caffeine of common teas (70-90mg per cup)
- ·Most forgiving brew window (4-5 min)
- ·Great with milk and sugar (English Breakfast tradition)
- ·Stable flavor profile — doesn't get bitter quickly
- ·Long shelf life (1-2 years properly stored)
How it works
Heat water to full boil (100°C / 212°F). Use 1 tsp per cup. Steep 4-5 minutes. Strain. Add milk and sugar to taste (especially for Assam, English Breakfast, Darjeeling first flush).
Black tea is fully oxidized — picked, withered, rolled, oxidized for hours, then dried. The oxidation creates the dark color and robust flavor. It dominates Western tea culture (UK, Russia, India).
Who uses black tea
Morning-coffee alternatives, British tea tradition, breakfast tea drinkers, anyone wanting strong reliable caffeine without coffee acidity.

Frequently asked questions
How long should I steep black tea?
For western-style brewing, steep black tea for 4 minutes at 212°F / 100°C. If your tea tastes bitter, reduce the time by 30 seconds. For a stronger brew, add more leaves rather than steeping longer.
What water temperature should I use for black tea?
Use water at 212°F / 100°C for black tea. Using water that's too hot can make the tea bitter and destroy delicate flavors. If you don't have a thermometer, let boiling water cool for 2-3 minutes to reach approximately 175°F.
Can I re-steep black tea leaves?
Yes! Black tea is excellent for multiple infusions. Try our Gongfu mode for 6 successive steeps, each extracting different flavors from the leaves.
