How it works

Enter two dates and the calculator outputs the difference in days, weeks, months, and years. Internally it converts both to milliseconds, subtracts, and divides into appropriate units.

Frequently asked questions

Which days are excluded from business-day counts?

All Saturdays, all Sundays, and the 11 US federal holidays: New Year's Day, MLK Day, Washington's Birthday (Presidents' Day), Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. When a fixed-date holiday lands on a weekend, the federal observance shifts to the nearest weekday.

Can I customize which holidays to exclude?

The calculator uses US federal holidays by default. For company-specific holidays (Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve) or non-US holidays, you would need to manually adjust. Many countries' bank-holiday lists differ — UK uses different holidays than US, Canada uses different than UK, etc.

How are partial business days handled?

The calculator works in whole days. A start date is counted as day 0 (already in progress) by default. If you need partial-day fractions for billing or SLA purposes, calculate hours separately.

Why use business-day rather than calendar-day arithmetic?

Many SLAs, court deadlines, banking transactions, and shipping commitments specify "5 business days" rather than "5 days." Banks especially: ACH transfers, check-clearing, and wire transactions all run on business-day timelines. Using calendar days for a business-day deadline can cause you to miss it by several days.
