Benefits

  • ·Computes day differences accurately
  • ·Handles leap years and month-length variations
  • ·Pairs with days-from / days-until calculators
  • ·Useful for legal, financial, and project deadlines

How it works

Enter two dates and the calculator outputs the difference in days, weeks, months, and years. Internally it converts both to milliseconds, subtracts, and divides into appropriate units.

Frequently asked questions

How does add-days arithmetic handle month boundaries?

The calculator adds calendar days one at a time, automatically rolling over to the next month when the current month ends. Adding 5 days to February 27 gives March 4 in non-leap years and March 3 in leap years. Adding 10 days to December 28 gives January 7 of the next year.

Does add-days exclude weekends or holidays?

No — by default this calculator counts all calendar days. For business-day arithmetic that excludes weekends and US federal holidays, use the Business Days Calculator instead. Choose based on whether your deadline rule uses calendar days (most legal/financial) or business days (most operational).

Can I add weeks, months, or years instead of days?

Yes. The calculator accepts days, weeks (multiplied by 7), months (calendar-month addition with end-of-month clamping), or years. End-of-month clamping handles cases like adding 1 month to January 31 — the result is February 28 or 29, not an invalid date.

Why does adding 1 month not always give the same numeric date?

Because months have different lengths. Adding 1 month to March 31 cannot give April 31 (no such date) — most calendar libraries clamp to the last valid date (April 30). Always specify whether your use case wants "exact 30 days" or "next month, same day clamped."
