About Bullet 2+1 chess
2+1 Bullet — 2 minutes per side, 1-second increment per move. Slightly more time than 1+0, increment prevents pure flag-fall losses.
Benefits
- ·More positional play possible than 1+0
- ·Increment prevents losing on flag with winning position
- ·Standard FIDE-recognised time control
- ·Common in chess club blitz tournaments
- ·Tests both speed and accuracy
How it works
Each player starts with 2 minutes. Every move adds 1 second to your clock. So if you make 60 moves, you accumulate 60 seconds back into your time bank — making rapid endgames possible.
Bullet with increment is a relatively new format (2010s+). Pre-increment, bullet chess was 1+0 or 2+0, which often resulted in dead-position flag wins. Increment removes that.
Who uses Bullet 2+1 chess
Online speed players, chess clubs, increment-preferring players who hate flag-fall losses.
